Blue Ribbon

blue ribbon
strewn across the sidewalk

there’s a blue ribbon
tied to my right wrist,
lifting my hand, pulling me up
higher, higher,
but my feet remain planted on the ground

one hand on the pen,
replaced by a keyboard,
evolved into a mic. and a beat;
ba-bump, ba-bump, ba-bump
and words flow over them
like a river of crystal shards
piercing through the fabric of time

the fabric
of a blue ribbon,
tied in a tattered bow at one end
